CHAPTER - 05 "UNVEILING THE CULPRIT"

Vishwanath Rai Singhania, known as Veer in his current disguise, had been working undercover for several weeks at the textile factory where Kashi was employed. His objective was to uncover the fraudulent activities causing significant financial losses to his company. He had joined the Textile factory as a manager. Each day, he observed the workers, reviewed documents, and spoke with employees, all while maintaining his disguise. He had spent weeks investigating the fraud that had been bleeding his company dry, and all the signs pointed to an insider's work.

One evening, after the factory had closed and the workers had gone home, Veer stayed behind, sifting through records in the office. He came across a series of documents that had been photocopied and some financial records that seemed to have been tampered with. He took note of the dates and amounts, noticing a pattern.

The dim light of the desk lamp cast long shadows across the room as he examined the documents yet again. He couldn't shake off the nagging feeling that something was off.

His heart sank when he found all the evidences seemed to implicate Kashi's name.

"Ye kaise ho sakta hai?" (How is it possible ?) he muttered to himself. "Kashi, itni imaandaar aur masoom ladki hai, yeh sab kaise kar sakti hai?"

(Kashi is such a loyal and innocent girl, how can she do this?)

As he pondered, his mind wandered to the time he had spent with Kashi. Her sincerity, her hard work, and her obvious care for her ailing mother - none of it matched the profile of a fraudster. He recalled their conversations, her struggles, and her unwavering resolve to provide for her family. He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts.

"Yeh sab galat hai. Kashi aisi nahi kar sakti,(Something is definitely wrong, Kashi can't do all this)" he whispered, a resolve forming in his mind.

The next day, Veer decided to dig deeper. He needed to know everything about Kashi's daily routine at the factory. He started interacting her colleagues and supervisors, subtly steering the conversation to gather more information about her.

Kashi kaam mein kaisi hai ? (How is Kashi at work?)" he asked one of her supervisors.

"Bahut imaandaar aur mehenti ladki hai sir. Apni maa ke ilaaj ke liye do jobs karti hai. Hum sab ko uspar garv hai,"

(She is a very loyal and hardworking girl sir. She is handling two jobs, so that she could pay for her mother's treatment. We are all very proud of her.)ย  the supervisor replied without hesitation.

Veer's determination to clear Kashi's name strengthened. He needed to find the real culprit, and fast. His gut told him there was more to the story, something that wasn't visible on the surface.

Determined to uncover the truth, Veer decided to confront Kashi. The next day, he waited for her at the factory entrance.

"Kashi," he called out as she approached. She looked surprised but greeted him with a warm smile.

"Veer ji, aap bahar kyu khade hai, itni dhoop mein (Veer Ji, why are you standing outside under the blazing sun)?" ?" she asked, her tone curious.

"Mujhe tumse kuch zaruri baat karni hai. Kya hum kahi baith kar baat kar sakte hain?"(I need to talk to you about something important. Can we sit somewhere and talk?)" he replied, trying to keep his voice steady.

Kashi nodded, a look of concern crossing her face. They walked to a nearby park and sat on a bench.

"Kashi, I won't beat around the bush and I need you to be honest with me," Veer began, looking into her eyes. Kashi's face contorted with confusion and concern but still she nodded.

"There are some discrepancies in the company's financial records, and your name has come up."

Kashi's eyes widened in shock. "Mera naam? Veer ji, mujhe kuch nahi pata is bare mein. Main aapko sach bata rahi hoon."

(My name? Veer ji, i really don't know anything about it, I'm telling you the truth).

Veer scrutinized her face, searching for any sign of deceit. "I want to believe you, Kashi. But the evidence points towards you. Is there anything you're not telling me?"

Kashi shook her head vehemently. "Main sach keh rahi hoon, Veer ji. Main aise kaam kabhi nahi kar sakti."

( I'm telling you the truth, Veer ji. I can never do such a thing.)

Seeing the genuine distress in her eyes, Veer's resolve wavered. Despite the mounting evidence, Veer's instincts screamed that Kashi was innocent. He needed to find solid proof to clear her name.

He decided to dig deeper. "Kashi, kya tumhare ghar mein ya tumhari jan pehchan mein koi aur hai jo tumhare documents use kar sakta hai?"

("Kashi, is there anyone in your household or someone you know who could use your documents?")

Kashi thought for a moment. "Mere Ghar mein toh sirf maa aur papa hai. Lekin wo dono toh factory mein kaam nahi karte. Unka documents se kya lena dena?"

(Kashi thought for a moment. "In my house, it's just my mama and Papa. But neither of them works in the factory. So what would they do with the documents?)

Veer's mind raced. Kashi's mother was a genuine lady who was also struggling with a gruelling disease. She can't be the one , so his doubt went on Ravi....If Ravi didn't work at the factory but had access to Kashi's documents, it meant he could be using her as a cover for his actions. He decided to investigate further.

Veer discreetly started following Ravi. He observed him visiting various places and speaking with suspicious individuals. One evening, Veer saw Ravi entering a small, dilapidated house on the outskirts of the town. Veer waited until Ravi left before approaching the house.

Inside, he found a makeshift office with several documents scattered across a table. Among them were copies of the same records that had implicated Kashi's name. Veer took photos of the documents as evidence and quietly left the house.

Armed with the evidence, Viswanath decided it was time to confront Ravi. He found Ravi at a local bar, nursing a drink. He approached him, his demeanor calm but his mind alert.

"Ravi," Vishwanath began as they faced each other. "I know what you've been doing."

Ravi's eyes narrowed. "Tum kon ho"? "Tumhe Mera naam kaise pta?".

"Aur yeh Tum kya keh rahe ho? Mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha."

(Ravi's eyes narrowed. "Who are you? How do you know my name?"

"And what are you talking about? I don't understand anything.")

"Don't play dumb with me," Viswanath replied, his voice cold. "I've seen the documents. I know you've been stealing information and causing losses to the company. You used Kashi to cover your tracks."

Ravi's face contorted with anger. "Tum kaun hote ho mujhe yeh sab kehne wale? ( Who the hell do you think you are to tell me all this?)

Ravi looked startled, then defensive. "Aur Mujhe nahi pata tum kya keh rahe ho. Mujh par jhootha ilzaam mat lagao."

(And I don't know what you're talking about. Don't accuse me of things I haven't done.)

Vishwanath leaned closer, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper. "Sach batao, Ravi. Tumhare paas woh documents kaise aaye?"

(Tell me the truth Ravi. How did you get access to those documents?)

Ravi's eyes widened, and he took a step back. "Tum kya bol rahe ho? (What are you saying?)" he stammered, though his voice lacked conviction.

Vishwanath took a step closer, his gaze piercing. "Mujhe sab pata chal gaya hai tumne hi rivals ko information bechi thi aur paisa bhi churaya hai ("I know everything. You sold information to our rivals and even stole the money.")" he accused.

Ravi's face paled, but he quickly recovered, putting on a facade of guilt. "Mujhse galti ho gayi. Main majboor tha. Paisa ki zaroorat thi,"("I made a mistake. I was in desperate need of money.") he said, attempting to sound remorseful.

Vishwanath wasn't buying it. "Yeh sab karne ki koi justification nahi hai. Tumne company ko nuksan ponchaya hai,"( There is no justification for what you did. You have caused enough loss to the company) he said coldly.

Ravi's expression shifted to one of desperation. "Please, Mujhe maaf kar do. Main apne parivar ke liye hi sab kuch kar raha tha,(Please forgive me. I did all this for my family)," he pleaded, his eyes darting nervously.

Vishwanath felt a surge of anger but kept his voice steady. "Mujhe sab pta hai ki tum kis tarah apni beti aur wife ko treat karte ho". Tumhara hona na ke hi barabar hai unke liye.Agar tumhe unki Zara bhi chinta hoti, toh tum Kashi ko bhi kabhi aisi situation mein nahi dalte,"

("I know how you treat your daughter and wife. You're worthless to them. If you cared even a bit about them, you wouldn't have put Kashi in such a situation.")

Ravi looked momentarily taken aback, then recovered, his eyes narrowing. Veer continued, "Ek accha pita apni beti aur patni ke liye suraksha aur sukoon ki zindagi banata hai, na ki dar aur takleef ki." ("A good father creates a life of safety and peace for his daughter and wife, not of fear and distress.")

Ravi's eyes narrowed as he looked Veer up and down. "Toh, tu Kashi aur uski maa ko janta hai". ( So you know Kashi and her mother?)

Vishwanath felt a surge of anger inside but he kept quiet and said "Tumne jo kiya hai, uske liye tumhe jawab dena padega (You will have to answer for what you have done), and turned to go but stopped hearing Ravi speak.

"Tum Kashi ke saath achha nahi kar rahe. Uski maa ki tabiyat aur kharab ho jayegi agar main uska ilaj band kar doon,(You're not doing good to Kashi . Her mother's condition will worsen if I stop her treatment.)" he said, his voice dripping with menace.

Viswanath knew Ravi was trying to manipulate the situation, but he couldn't let Kashi and her mother suffer. "Tumhe koi haq nahi hai unhe aur dard dene ka("You have no right to cause them any more pain)." he said, his voice low and dangerous.

Ravi smirked, sensing an opportunity. "Agar tu mujhe expose karega, toh Kashi aur Anjali ko aur zyada mushkil mein dal dega. Soch le ("If you expose me, you'll only make things harder for Kashi and Anjali. Think about it)," he said, his words laced with a sinister threat.

Vishwanath, felt a surge of anger at Ravi's veiled threat. He knew Kashi and her mother didn't need Ravi's money anymore. Vishwanath had already decided to ensure Anjali received the best possible care, regardless of the cost. But he couldn't reveal this to anyone just yet. He didn't want to hurt Kashi's sense of independence or make her feel indebted to him.

Vishwanath kept his face impassive. Inside, he was seething. He wanted to tell Ravi that his threats were meaningless, that Kashi and her mother would be taken care of without his dirty money. But he knew Kashi's pride and resilience. She wouldn't want to be seen as a charity case, and Vishwanath respected her too much to undermine her strength.

So, he stayed silent, letting Ravi believe he had the upper hand, For now.
